The Decalogue by Krzysztof Kieslowski

The Decalogue by Krzysztof Kieslowski presents the work of one of the most excellent and acknowledged Polish filmmakers in the world.

The Decalogue by Krzysztof Kieslowski is an unprecedented 10-episode series of films produced by Polish Television as well as cinema versions of the two episodes, i.e. A Short Film About Killing and A Short Film About Love.

Each story within the cycle alludes to the Ten Commandments and shows their universal nature through narratives about people people faced with fundamental questions about life. The plots of individual film stories refer to the message contained in consecutive commandments and we present them through amazingly rich iconographic material, among others stills, posters and other archival materials. We are guided around the exhibition by comments not only from the Director who describes his work on the set of The Decalogue but also from other artists, among others Krzysztof Piesiewicz – a co-author of the script, camera operators, actors.

The presentation of the exhibition in Cracow is linked to anniversaries related to the Director: 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of Krzysztof Kieslowski’s death as well as the 75th anniversary of his birth.

The exhibition has been included in the programme of The Youth Festival during The World Youth Days in Cracow.

Venue: The Krakow Society of Friends of Fine Arts, Palace of Art, pl. Szczepanski 4.
